It is said behind every successful man there is a woman. Mrs. Kamal A Baliga was one such. She admirely fulfilled her husband’s social needs. She would patiently wait for his return home from rather irregular and taxing hours to share meals with him.

She supervised cooking for patients in his nursing home. She was wonderful hostess and she always welcomed guests with a smile even at add hours. Lastly She fulfilled the desire of her late husband when she willed that their properties and asset be exclusively used for medical education and medical relief after her death. That was how Kamal A. Baliga Charitable Trust was established.

Kamal. A. Baliga Rural Medical Center was established in memory of Late Mrs. Kamal A. Baliga, wife of Late Dr. A. V. Baliga. This is a multi-disciplinary center present on the same campus as ‘Ashraya – Home for Senior Citizens’ at Haradi, near Brahmavar.

The Medical Center offers services in General Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pathology, Radiology, Dentistry, Family Planning and Family Welfare; it is well supplemented by a Minor Operation Theatre, Laboratory and Pharmacy. The center is fully air conditioned with back-up power facilities. This state of the art Medical Center, which is primarily concerned with the welfare of the rural populace, is the first of its kind in India.

The Kamal. A. Baliga Charitable Trust has granted numerous scholarships and donated large sums to the medical library at the B. Y. L Charitable Nair Hospital. Other donations include equipment to the department of Dental Surgery and a computer to Department of Plastic Surgery at the L. T. M. G Hospital, Sion. Donations have also been made to the NASEOH institution to train the handicapped to gain useful employment or to become self employed.
